It is now Sunday 13th of June and the whole picture is the same as yesterday. The boats are launched form the bit problematic slip of chania harbor and soon all of them gathered at the western side of the lighthouse for the Offshore race. This time two other boats join this 10 round 50 mile race, the Top Line 19 of Dinos Markopoulos and the Banana Shark of Kostas Kontogiorgakis which tackled the mechanical problem by replacing the engine foot. The sea is really tranquil and when the flare lights the boats of all classes are rushing out full speed.
However the winners are not the fastest drivers but the crews manage to maintain enough fuels in their tanks. In deed the whole outcome of the race was determined before its start during fuel filling as five boats will eventually run out of gas missing the chance to win a place and collect valuable points on the Championship. The first accusations were directed against the fuel supplier who filled the boats from his delivery truck and especially when someone claimed that his 20 lit plastic tank could take up to…24 liters. Also, the measuring of the fuel supply was in gallon rather than in liters creating confusion to the crew about the exact amount they were asking for which in combination with the running out of gas incidents pointed the scenario of fraud being possible. From the other side though, the gas filling was marginal as the crews attempted to acquire the minimum possible weight in order to succeed highest speeds with their boats while this particular weekend had the first two very hot summer days a fact that brings a negative impact on consumption.
Vaggelis Serras and Christos Gatsos. They did n’t make to the finish due to fuel run out.
Grigoris Economou he marginally lost the chance to finish
So getting back to race the previous day winners in the Sport class, Nikos Laskaris and Manolis Ktistakis trade places and so the driver from Corfu comes first while Stamatis Kalafatas maintains the second place for this time as well. In the Extra Sport class there is an intense competition among three rivals the Olympic 820 of Heraklis Bontzolakis which takes a lead following the Top Line 31 of Kostas Grammatikakis racing for the Super Sport Class and the other two, the Scorpion ST of Grigoris Economou and the Sea Quest 760 of Vaggelis Serras. However the latter two run out of gas with Grigoris Economou to be the most tragic figure seeing any chance to win a place to evaporate just 100m away from the finish.
The very skillful driver Michalis Kelis did not manage to take a place this time

On contrary, the Technohull of Stavros Loulourgas and Triantafyllos Kenenounis (Rhodes) wins the first place while the Banana Shark of Kostas Kontogiorgakis and Nikos Tachliampouris comes second using the last remaining drops of fuel. The third winner is Dinos Markopoulos with his co-driver Thanassis Paparigopoulos driving the Top Line Corsair 29. The race finishes and now its is the time for the winners to take their trophies in front of the historic KAM building, while the winners in the (aggregate) overall category announced are Kostas Grammatikakis and Kostas Starakis (first), Stavros Loulourgas and Triantafyllos Kenenounis (second) and Heraklis Bontzolakis and Michael Charalampakis.
The helicopter was taking airborn video shots chasing the racers.
Nikos Laskaris conquested the firt place.

The rest of the remaining time before the departure from Souda Harbor I spend it the infinity swimming pool of Panorama 5* Hotel with the magnificent view over the Chania sea pleasantly sharing the company of crews, their team members and journalists. This company sticks together on board until almost midnight amused by the tunes of Babis Konstantatos a friend of mine and journalist who plays his guitar…
