Torqeedo’s Pod motor system wins Innovation Award in Miami

The Cruise Pod drives of Torqeedo have received the Innovation Award of the National Marine Manufactures Association in the USA, in Miami. More in the following press release.

Torqeedo’s Pod motor system wins Innovation Award in Miami

Torqeedo’s Cruise FP models win the Innovation Award of the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) in the USA.

The National Marine Manufacturers Association, in cooperation with Boating Writers International, honored the winners of the Innovation Awards during the Innovation Breakfast of the Miami Boat Show.
“Beautifully engineered, the Torqeedo Cruise Pod System brings electric propulsion to a wider range of sailboats”, said judge Bill Pike. The Innovation Awards are the most prestigious recognition given in the US Marine Industry. The judges’ committee is comprised of eight BWI members who perform product testing throughout the year and have specific expertise in marine products and equipment.

Third award for Cruise FP in only four months
The Cruise Pod drives from Torqeedo offer a practical electric alternative to inboard diesels. The system delivers maximum performance with minimal weight. The motor unit, which has been proven in thousands of outboard motors, is complemented by Torqeedo’s lithium batteries, a new electronic throttle series and a modern user interface. The system can be charged by shore power, solar power and with a generator. It can also charge its own batteries through hydro-generation while under sail. In particular, cruising sailors gain more independence by accessing sustainably generated energy for the operation of the electrical loads on board.
Christoph Ballin, CEO of Torqeedo, said: “The Cruise Pod models make electric mobility an even more attractive option for sailboats. The Innovation Award is a great honor and affirms we are charting the right course.”
It is the third award for the Torqeedo Cruise FP System in only four months, after being awarded Overall Winner of the DAME Awards 2016 and the Pittman Innovation Award 2017.
