Στις τελευταίες ημέρες του Μαΐου (22-24η) επισκέφτηκα το Amsterdam για να παρακολουθήσω την εκδήλωση τύπου της Brunswick όπου 9 νέα μοντέλα των γνωστών εταιρειών της, Boston Whaler, Sea Ray και Bayliner αποκαλύφτηκαν μπροστά σ’ ένα μεγάλο κοινό δημοσιογράφων από όλη την Ευρώπη. Η τριήμερη διοργάνωση ήταν πολύ καλά οργανωμένη και η φιλοξενία έλαβε χώρα σ’ ένα μοντέρνο και πολυτελές ξενοδοχείο (Artemis - Dutch Design Hotel) ενώ τα σκάφη που παρουσιάστηκαν ενσωμάτωναν πολλές καινοτομίες που κάνουν την ζωή στο νερό πιο ασφαλή και ευχάριστη για τους χρήστες ανεβάζοντας τον πήχη και διαμορφώνοντας τις νέες τάσεις στην κατασκευαστική βιομηχανία γενικότερα.
During the last days of May (22-24th) I visited Amsterdam to attend the Brunswick Press Event where 9 new models of its renowned brands, Boston Whaler, Sea Ray and Bayliner were unveiled in front of a large group of journalists from all around Europe. The three day event was very well organized and the hospitality took place in a modern and luxurious hotel (Artemis- Dutch Design Hotel) and the boats presented incorporated numerous innovations that destine to make life in the water safer and more enjoyable for the boat enthusiasts raising the bar and shaping the trends to come in the boat industry as a whole.
Πιο συγκεκριμένα, αναφορικά με τα Boston Whaler τα μοντέλα για δοκιμή και αυτά που ανυπομονούσα να οδηγήσω ήταν τα Vantage 270 και 230 και επιπρόσθετα το Dauntless 170 ένα σκάφος που είχα ήδη δοκιμάσει πέρυσι στην προηγούμενη αντίστοιχη διοργάνωση, ενώ από την Sea Ray παρουσιάστηκαν το 265 Sundancer, το 220 Sundeck και το μοντέρνο 21 Jet. Η Bayliner παρέταξε τα 175 GT, 642 Cubby και πολύ καινοτόμο και επαναστατικό 5μετρο σκάφος, το New Element.
In particular, regarding Boston Whaler the models for testing, and the ones I was looking forward driving, were the 270 and 230 Vantage and additionally the Dauntless 170 a boat that I had already tested a year ago in the former event, where as from the Sea Ray the 265 Sundancer, the 220 Sundeck and the very stylish 21 Jet were presented. The Bayliner deployed the 175 GT, the 642 Cuddy and a very innovative and revolutionary 5meter boat, the New Element.
H Brunswick Marine, ο ηγετικός αμερικανικός όμιλος εσωκλείει κάτω από την ομπρέλα του 12 διαφορετικές εταιρείες σκαφών (συμπεριλαμβανομένων και των προαναφερόμενων οίκων) καθώς επίσης τις εξωλέμβιες μηχανές Mercury και Mariner και τους κινητήρες Mer Cruiser αναδεικνυόμενος έτσι η μεγαλύτερη οντότητα θαλάσσιας αναψυχής σε παγκόσμιο επίπεδο. Ο οργανωτής της εκδήλωσης, η Brunswick Netherlands BV, είχε στην διάθεση των φιλοξενούμενων δύο “ασυνήθιστα” τουλάχιστον για το ευρωπαϊκό κοινό σκάφη με πλωτήρες Harris Flotebote που χρησίμευαν ως εξέδρες για την φωτογράφιση των σκαφών των δοκιμών. Βλέποντας τα σκάφη αυτά από ανεξάρτητη πλευρά, διακρίνονται για τα υπερευρύχωρα καταστρώματα και προσφέρουν πολλές καθιστικές ανέσεις ενώ είναι ικανά να πλανάρουν με χαμηλές απαιτήσεις ιπποδύναμης.
The Brunswick Marine, the leading American marine group incorporates under its umbrella 12 different boat brands (including the aforementioned marques) plus the Mercury and Mariner outboards and Mer Cruiser engines constituting the largest leisure marine entity in the world. The host of this event, the Brunswick Netherlands BV , had in the guests’ disposal two “unconventional” at least for the european audience, Harris Flotebote pontoon boats, the Cruiser 200 and Sunliner 220 which served as platforms for taking shots on the testing boats. Independently seen, these boats boast ultra spacious decks and offer many seating comforts on board and are able to plane with low horsepower requirements.
Οι οργανωτές έκαναν μια ολοκληρωμένη δουλειά έχοντας τα πάντα κάτω από τον έλεγχο τους δίνοντας στους δημοσιογράφους αναλυτικές πληροφορίες για τα χαρακτηριστικά των σκαφών και των επιδόσεων τους καθώς επίσης και ρουχισμό και προϊόντα των εταιρειών. Προκειμένου να αυξήσουν την ασφάλεια προμήθευσαν με σωσίβια όλα τα πληρώματα ενώ για να διευκολύνουν την εύρυθμη λειτουργία του έργου τους χρησιμοποίησαν ένα σύστημα ασύρματης επικοινωνίας.
The organizers did a complete job keeping all things under control and handing to all journalists detail information about the boats specifications and performance data plus branded apparel and products. To ensure safety, they provided all the crews with life vests and to facilitate the efficiency of their operations they used a wireless intercom system.
Την πρώτη ημέρα οι δοκιμές έλαβαν χώρα στην γραφική λίμνη Wensteinder κοντά στην πόλη Aalsmeer ξεκινώντας από την μαρίνα όπου βρίσκονταν οι νέες εγκαταστάσεις των οργανωτών και όπου λίγο νωρίτερα έγιναν οι παρουσιάσεις για τα χαρακτηριστικά, την τεχνολογία και τις καινοτομίες των σκαφών. Αυτό που με εντυπωσίασε σ’ αυτή την καθετοποιημένη μονάδα που ενσωματώνει την έκθεση, την υποστήριξη και τις διοικητικές εγκαταστάσεις, ήταν το μεγάλο υπόστεγο που στέγαζε πολλά σκάφη προστατεύοντας τα από την μανία του καιρού. Κατά την διάρκεια εκείνης της ημέρας δοκίμασα τα δύο Boston Whaler και τα δύο μεγαλύτερα Sea Ray σε σχετικά ήπιες συνθήκες αλλά με πολύ κρύο για την εποχή με μονοψήφιες θερμοκρασίες.
The first day (May 22th) the water trials took place in the picturesque Wensteinder lake near Aalsmeer starting from the marina where the new premises of the organizers are located and the presentations over the boats characteristics, technology and innovations were carried on earlier. What impressed me in this vertical organized unit which integrates the show room, service and the administration facilities was the large shed that roofed many boats protecting them from the elements. During this day I tested the two Boston Whalers and the two bigger Sea Rays in relatively mild water conditions but with extreme cold for the season, measuring single digit temperatures.
Την επόμενη ημέρα συγκεντρωθήκαμε στις παλιές εγκαταστάσεις των οργανωτών στην μικρή λίμνη Nieuwe Meer στο Amsterdam όπου είχαμε την δυνατότητα να πάρουμε αρκετές φωτογραφίες από υπερυψωμένο σημείο με την απουσία βροχής και με μικρά και δειλά διαλείμματα ήλιου. Κατόπιν, είχα την ευκαιρία να δοκιμάσω το νέο πολύ ευέλικτο Sea Ray 21 Jet με τους δύο πρωτότυπους κινητήρες Weber. Αργότερα την ίδια ημέρα και μετά το μεσημεριανό γεύμα που εδόθει στο παραδοσιακό και ανακαινισμένο ξενοδοχείο Amstel Intercontinental όλα τα σκάφη σχημάτισαν ένα μακρύ κομβόι διαπλέοντας τα κανάλια του Amsterdam με τα πληρώματα να απολαμβάνουν την θέα της πόλης ξεκινώντας από την “λεπτή γέφυρα”.
The next day we gathered at the old installations of the organizers in the small Nieuwe Meer lake where we offered a good session for the photo shots from a vantage point as there was not any rain and short breaks of sun were coming up shyly. Right after I had the chance to test the new very maneuverable Sea Ray 21 Jet with the twin Weber prototype engines. Later that day and after the lunch we were given at the traditional and renovated Amstel Intercontinental Hotel all the boats formed a long convoy touring through the Amsterdam’s canals with the crews enjoying the city view starting from the “skinny bridge”.
Η περιήγηση τελείωσε στις ευρύχωρες εγκαταστάσεις του Holland Sport Boat Center με την πολύ καλά οργανωμένη μαρίνα του όπου πολύ ευγενικά μας προσέφεραν ποτά και εδέσματα. Δυστυχώς, έπρεπε να συντομεύσω το ταξίδι μου κατά μια ημέρα προκειμένου να πάω στην Ρόδο όπως είχα ήδη κανονίσει για να παραβρεθώ στους αγώνες του Πανελλήνιου Πρωταθλήματος Φουσκωτών Σκαφών. Πολλά ευχαριστώ στους οργανωτές για τη φιλοξενία τους και την ευκαιρία που μου έδωσαν για να δοκιμάσω τα σκάφη σε πρώτη παρουσίαση. Επίσης, μου ήταν πολύ ευχάριστο να δω πάλι μερικούς γνωστούς μου που συνάντησα ένα χρόνο πριν και με τους οποίους μοιράζομαι το ίδιο πάθος για την θάλασσα και τα σκάφη.
The tour ended up at the spacious installations of Holland Sport Boat Center including its well organized marina where they offered us politely food and drinks. Unfortunately, I had to cut this trip to Amsterdam short missing the next day since I had already been appointed to be that day in Rhodes to attend the beginning of the Hellenic Rib Race Championship. Many thanks to the organizers for their hospitality and the chance they offered me to test drive these boats firsthand. It was also great pleasure to see again some fellows we had met a year earlier as we share the same love and passion for the sea and the boats.
